Suwon

Thursday was yet another day to get up reasonably early, since we hit the road for Suwon, a small city still within the range of Seoul metro, approximately 1.5 hrs away. The old town center is surrounded by a stone wall with lots of nicely fortified towers, guarding a golden Buddha statue, a palace and more. I was completely thrilled upon arrival at one of the main gates, since it looked something like I would expect the great wall to look. Only much smaller and quite a bit more recently built - I believe it was around 1790 or so. We took a stroll along the top of the wall, Christian & I tried out some archery with traditional Korean bows, we saw a Christian cathedral from afar and visited the Buddhist temple from close up. After the beautiful but exhausting trip, we went for a traditional Korean BBQ dinner with Claudine, where they actually serve the slightly pricy Korean beef. Nevertheless, it was worth every cent.
